Sonya Kay Cochran daughter of Sundown and Joanna (Mink) Watie was born September 6, 1973 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and went to be with our Lord eternally on January 18, 2019 surrounded by loved ones.

Sonya had an unwavering love for the Lord. She was a member at Cherry Tree Baptist Church where she loved serving in many capacities including treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed acting in church plays and CBA skits. Sonya spent countless hours serving in the community. She was an ambassador to Washington for the Kidney Foundation for two years, representing Oklahoma.

Sonya graduated from Stilwell High School in 1991 and went on to receive a Master's Degree in social work and worked for the United Keetoowah Band. Every chance Sonya got she was watching her nieces and nephews in any of their sporting events. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
 

She was preceded in death by grandparents; Emma Mink, Ada Watie and Dave Watie, uncles; Bryan Mink, Delmar Watie, Hubert Mink and Tommy Mink.
 

Sonya leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory that includes her husband; Martin Cochran of the home, parents; Sundown and Joanna Watie, siblings; Sundown Watie Jr. and wife Mandy, Sky Dayva Watie, Shayna Jo Watie all of Stilwell, niece and nephews; Shade Watie, Snowda Watie, Shaystin Duncan and Sy Watie all of Stilwell. Grandpa; Hubert Bunch of Bunch, mother and father-in-law; Sanders and Irene Cochran, goddaughters; Makenzie Beaver and Krista Stopp, special friend; Melinda Moten and special friend who was like a brother; Jeremy Pritchett, several aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends also survive her.


Funeral services were held Thursday, January 24, 2019 in the New Life Church with Pastor David Mink, Rev. D.J. McCarter, and Pastor Phil Watie officiating.

Interment followed under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
