This is a summarization of the Parris Cemetery located in Adair County, Oklahoma . It’s not intended to fill any missing gaps in history or to sway personal opinion’s to one direction or another. There are several different stories, ideas, theories and so on as to the unknown burials and who they could be. There’s much more information out there well beyond my being able to place online in a few paragraphs.

The story of the Parris family in the 1800s first stepping foot on Indian Territory or what is now Oklahoma started with Robert Parris (1794-1858) who was also known as "Bob" and/or "Old Settler". Robert Parris had been married 2x to Penelope "Penny" Langley and to Hester Blackwell who ended up in the Going Snake area of The Cherokee Nation. Robert Parris headstone was found later in the Going Snake area. It had been buried under the soil for many years until some land owner uncovered it while working on their land.

Malachi Parris (1813-1864) was the son of Robert and Penny Parris and came to Oklahoma (I.T.) around 1830-1832 from Georgia. It was more of a visit because he only stayed for about a year and returned to Georgia. Before his return around 1837 to Indian Territory he had married Mahala Morton (1812-1892). Of this marriage came their children Henry(1837-1839), Salina (1838-1892), Robert S (1840-1869),Mary Ann (1841-1928), Gatsey Louisa (1849-1928, Nancy (1851-) Leatha Mae(1856-1890),Malachi Jr (1843-),Moses Oliver (1845-) and Martha Luiza (1847-1933)

There are a few stories that surround the date of death and the burial of Malachi Parris. During the Civil War Malachi was caught in the fight and was killed. Reputable sources for the time say that Malachi was buried by his family at Oldes Farm just a cross the Oklahoma /Arkansas line. Malachi’s son married the daughter of Carte Odles Elizabeth (Lizzie) in 1866. So, Malachi could very well have been buried on this farm.
