Funeral services for Garlin Winkler were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. James Essary officiating.
 
Interment followed at Honey Hill Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
Garlin Lee Winkler was born November 2, 1927, in Stilwell, Oklahoma to the late Clyde and Minnie (Collins) Winkler. He passed away April 22, 2009, at Stilwell Memorial Hospital at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 20 days.
He married the love of his life, Mary Grace Higgins, on September 17, 1950, in Wiley, Colorado.
Garlin was a song leader and singer of the Adair County singing conventions. He was the last singer left of the convention. He loved to ride horses and belonged to the Proctor Riding Club. He rode in several parades with his grandson, Brian, who he taught to ride at an early age. He loved to take the little grandsons fishing before he became ill.
He worked several years at Adair County Orchard for Bill Auffett and also worked for J.D. and Betty Briggs on their farm of which he enjoyed. The family all enjoyed cookouts, which consisted of fried fish, cole slaw, fried potatoes, hushpuppies, dessert and iced tea.
Garlin was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Minnie Winkler, one daughter, Wilma Workman, one brother, Irvin Winkler and three sisters, Beulah Fly, Margie Tinsley and Pearl Marie Winkler.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary, of the home; three sons, Dale Winkler, John Winkler and wife, Pat, all of Stilwell, and Kevin Winkler, of the home; three daughters, Mary Katherine Tomlinson and husband, Paul, Debbie Denton and husband, Jim, all of Stilwell, Elaine Carr and husband, Rodney, of West Siloam Springs, OK, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of many friends.
