Stilwell Democrat Journal - September 4, 1952
Funeral Service Is Held for Mrs. James Christie Funeral service was held last Friday afternoon in the school building at Christie for Mrs. James Christie, one of our early pioneers of this county.
Lula C, Christie was born near Westville, I.T., February 25, 1872. She was married to James Christie January 13, 1895. Mrs. Christie passed away at the home near Christie on August 28, 1952 at the age of 80 years, after a lengthy illness.
She taught school for many years and was largely responsible for the establishment of the Christie school. The land for the school was donated by her father-in-law, "Uncle John" Christie, so was thus called the Christie school. She and her husband held box suppers in their home to raise funds for the building which served both as school and church and she became the first teacher of the school.
Mrs. Christie was not only a public spirited citizen but a faithful worker in the church through all the many years of her life. Burial at the Foreman Cemetery was under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Essary of Stilwell officiating.
