Johnnie Richard Sanders, son of Nellie (Seabolt) Shell and Harry Sanders, was born January 16, 1930 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and departed this life to be with our Lord on March 25, 2019 in Stilwell surrounded by loved ones at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 9 days.

Johnnie served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp during Korea. While enlisted he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes where it was hard for him to find a partner because he took it so seriously. He loved time spent with family and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandkids.


Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; Nellie Shell and Harry Sanders, wife; Eliza Sanders, four children; Randy, Amos, Leon and Linda Kay Sanders, sister; Lorene Ross, daughter-in-law; Esther Sanders, son-in-law; Paul Butler, and a great-grandson, Rex.
 

He is survived by a very loving family that includes his children; Johnnie R. Sanders Jr and wife Janice, Leroy Sanders, Brenda Butler and George Sanders, 17 grandkids, 38 great grandkids, and 4 great-great-grandkids. Daughter-in-law; Rogina Sanders, two special caregivers; great-granddaughter; Ashton Thirsty, and Kathy Catron, five brothers; four sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive him.
 

Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, 2019 at Roberts/Reed- Culver Chapel, Stilwell, with Bro. Leo Duncan and Bro. Jimmy Muskrat officiating.

Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery, Stilwell.
