August 9, 1948 a typically hot Oklahoma morning Dottie Mae awakened her husband Lile saying “It’s time.” Lile and Dottie had moved back to the farm south of Sharon to begin their life after Lile was finally discharged from the Army hospital where he had been receiving treatment for his injuries received in the Normandy invasion. They were home and anxiously awaiting the birth of their first child. Heading to Mooreland, they prayed for the health and safe delivery of their baby. Duane Lile Mote burst into this world, and life as they had known it changed forever! Twenty months later brother Darrel was born and the two began an odyssey of faith, fun, and fights. What those two couldn’t think of to get into! Twelve years later, Elaine Kay, came into their lives. Duane was a wonderful big brother then and today! He taught her some of her huge basketball moves which has made her a legend.
Duane was a proud Sharon Bulldog graduating with the Class of 1966! Duane loved sports and was well known for his baseball prowess, ending up catching at NWOSU. There he met Shirley, they married and had four beautiful kids: Michelle, Melissa, Misti and Michael. After serving in the US Army and being stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War, he achieved many awards and honors in the Army, but he was most proud of his Marksmanship Medals and would not hesitate to show them to his daughters’ boyfriends!
Moving back to the farm with his family, Duane became a legendary sheep breeder. Not only did he raise and sell them, but dragged his girls all over the country showing.
But Duane’s greatest love was cattle. He became a connoisseur of cattle, caring for, doctoring, raising and became a part of the sale barn system! Duane bought and sold and guided and advised many young bucks in the cattle business! And he loved it! Duane married Carol Vanderwork January 1, 2000 and started the new millennium together. When doing so, he gained three bonus children, Lee, Dell and Leslie and their children. Duane loved Carols’ kids and grands like his own.
When Duane and Carol married, they searched for a church home and quickly found the church family that fit! It was the Vici Methodist Church! Duane served in several leadership positions in the church and was very proud to become a lay speaker. He always said he wasn’t a preacher; he was a talker!
Duane never met a stranger, loved life, loved Carol, his family, the St. Lois Cardinals and Pirates, Dallas Cowboys, Thunder and any sport activity his kids or grands were involved in.
In Short, Duane loved life and everything about it; good and bad, wet or dry, hot or cold, whatever life handed him, he twinkled his eyes and grinned and said, “Let’s get er done!”
Duane was loved by so many! He will be missed like no other! But, he lay down to rest July 11, 2017 and didn’t awaken in this world. His Heavenly Father was waiting to welcome him into his Eternal Home.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and brother Darrell Mote. He is survived by his wife Carol Mote. Children Michelle Medrano and husband Raymon; Melissa Barnett and husband Craig and their children Cameron, Carsten and Corben; Misti Nelson and husband Adam and their children Rowdy, Elijah, Jonah, and Noah; Mike Mote and special friend Samantha; Lee Vanderwork and wife Tracy and their children Luke, Lexi, and Tate; Dell Vanderwork and wife Whitney and their children Ryan, Kody, Kelly; Leslie Tevebaugh and husband Treynor and their children Parker and Presley; sister Kay Mote; sister-in-law Debbie Mote; mother-in-law Margaret Jenkinson; many nieces and nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
