Woodward, Okla. — Oma Smith 88 year old longtime Mooreland resident went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 24, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday March 2, 2012 in the First Baptist Church of Mooreland with Reverend Jim Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday March 1, 2012 at the Billings Funeral Home in Mooreland.

Oma B. Smith was born 11 miles North of Mooreland on the family farm June 12, 1923. Oma invited Jesus into her heart at the age of 12 in the Haskew Church and was baptized in Slicker Creek. Oma enjoyed recalling her childhood memories of family and friends on the farm. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Mooreland for 35 years teaching and serving her Lord where needed. During her lifetime she resided in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. For the past two years she has enjoyed living in the homes of her four children in Texas and Arkansas.

On January 31, 1942 she married the love of her life, Arlon Leo Smith at the Pentecostal Church parsonage in Woodward. Oma and Arlon were married three weeks shy of 60 years before Arlon preceded her in death on January 7, 2002.

Oma’s life was devoted to her family and friends showing how important Christ was in her life. She will be missed, but remembered in fond memories.

Left to celebrate her life are three daughters, Veta Ann Floyd and husband Larry of Amarillo, TX; Linda Lea Brookshire and husband Donnie of Frisco, TX; Sherry Gwyn Birkhead of Conroe, TX; one son, Owen Martin Smith (Marty) and wife Janie of Hot Springs Village, AR; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jane Highfill of Mooreland, other family and friends.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, Bennet M. and Anna Viola (Patton) Highfill Chance; two sisters, two brothers, one son-in-law, and one grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International for memorial bibles with the funeral home accepting contributions.
