Roberta Sampson

Woodward, Okla. — Roberta Sampson, 89 year old Mooreland resident, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward with the Reverend Gaylon Cox officiating. Interment will be in the Mooreland Cemetery.

Roberta (Vaden) Sampson was born on October 31, 1921 in New Ark, Arkansas to Jesse Larimore and Myrtle Rose (Burrow) Vaden. Roberta was reared in Bromide and Pontotoc, Oklahoma and graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1938. Roberta was united in marriage to Carlton James "Unk" Sampson on June 4, 1940 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. They made their firs home near Tishomingo where Carlton worked on a ranch. They later moved to the Ada area where they were blessed with three sons, Hal, C.M. and Danny. Carlton worked in the oilfield and the family moved often. The family moved to Mooreland in 1960 and Roberta has lived there since that time. In the early 1970's Roberta became an LPN and she went to work for the Woodward Hospital and later worked at various nursing homes.

Roberta was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mooreland. She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, C.M. Sampson and wife Dee of Florida; Danny Sampson and wife Marilyn of Mooreland; daughter-in-law, Barbara Sampson of Mooreland; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jewell Watson and Clovis (Todie) Bunce; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Unk Sampson, her son Hal Sampson, granddaughter Tonya Sampson and her four sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
