Interment: Friday, September 23rd, 2016 Mooreland Cemetery Lawrence Romine, 91 year old Mooreland resident died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his home in Mooreland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, September 23, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward with Reverend Lance Fuqua officiating. Interment will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery.
Lawrence Roy Romine was born on June 3, 1925 in Oakwood, Oklahoma the son of John Moses and Nanny Blanche (Williams) Romine. Lawrence spent his childhood in Byron, Oklahoma where he attended school. Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army, serving over seas during World War II. He was awarded various medals, including the Purple Heart, and Bronze Star. Lawrence was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon his return home he went to work for a grocery store in Cherokee. Lawrence then met and married the love of his life Doris Sharon Tyrrell. The couple was married in Cherokee, Oklahoma in 1952, and made their home in Quinlan. Lawrence then began his career as a rural postal carrier for the next 32 years, retiring from the Mooreland Post Office. He then worked for Homestead Bank and Mid-First Bank for the next 15 years.
Lawrence enjoyed fishing, boating, basketball and football, he was an avid OU football fan. He spent time working his yard. He was Scout Leader of the Quinlan Boy Scouts and was proud of the fact that seven of his Scouts became Eagle Scouts. Lawrence also coached the Quinlan boys basketball team.
Lawrence was a family man, he was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing gave him greater joy than spending time with his family.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 64 years Doris; one son, John Romine of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Pat Snipes and husband Charlie of Woodward; Connie Tune and husband Scott of Ashland, Kansas; Annette Foale and husband Wes of Woodward; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Snipes; Jessica Fuqua and husband Lance; Josh Snipes and wife Amanda; Leahanna Smith; Eric Campbell and wife Emilie; Dustee Bence and husband David; Cheyenne Solis and husband Paco; John Michael Romine; Cory Romine and wife Hope; Chris Nash; and Carol Nash; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Joel Snipes; Devin Romine; as well as all his siblings.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer’s Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
