Woodward, Okla. - Leona Owens 92 year old former Mooreland resident died Saturday February 16, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday February 20, 2013 in the Mooreland First Baptist Church with Reverend David Houchin officiating. Interment will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home in Woodward with a family gathering from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm

Leona Edna Owens was born on August 26, 1920 in Tyro, Kansas the daughter of Millard Franklin and Mary Jane (Renshaw) Berry. Leona was reared in Woodward and attended Woodward schools. Leona was united in marriage to Ray Smith and they made their home in Woodward. To this union two children were born, Bobbie R. and Joyce C. On May 24, 1969 she was united in marriage to Clifford R. Owens in Moscow Flats. They made their home on the farm west of Mooreland. Leona worked with Cliff at Sooner Supply Company until their retirement in the late 1970's. Leona and Cliff continued living on the farm until their health force them to move into Mooreland in 2004. Shortly after Cliff's death Leona moved to Norman to be near her daughter.

Leona was a member of the Woodward Rebekah Lodge #73 since 1944. She enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. She also spent time crocheting and putting together puzzles.

She was member of the Mooreland First Baptist Church.

Leona is survived by her daughter, Joyce Handley of Norman; adopted Daughter Betty Allison of Woodward; four grandchildren, Mark Handley and wife Carol, Cindy Stevens and husband Darrell, Tracy Handley and wife Lacey, Shelley Miller and husband Mike; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law; Doris Smith of Norman; several other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Ray Smith, and Cliff Owens, son, Bobbie Smith, 3 brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mooreland First Baptist Church pantry with the funeral accepting the contributions.
