The funeral for Dr. Rick Duane Laird, 53, of Woodward, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Jason Dirks will officiate. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery . Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home.

He was born Jan. 22, 1956, in Woodward to William Frank and Etta Jane Highfill Laird and died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at his home.

He graduated from Woodward High School in 1974. He attended Eastern Oklahoma State University, Wilburton, from 1974 to 1976 and graduated from South-eastern State University, Durant, in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree. He attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., and received his doctorate in optometry in 1981.

He worked for Dr. John Hawkins in Woodward until opening his own practice in 1984. He retired in July.

He married Brenda Maddox in 1986.

He was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Oklahoma Opto-metric Association, Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge and was a board member for TLC. Surviving are one son, Blake Adam Laird of Stillwater; and three brothers, Mitchell Laird of Phoenix, Bill Laird of New Boston, Texas, and Bob Laird of Texarkana, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church eye care missions.
