Funeral: 10:00 AM Monday, November 23rd, 2015, Billings Funeral Home Chapel

Interment: Monday, November 23rd, 2015, Elmwood Cemetery Tommy Young, 86 year old Woodward resident, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Tony Barros officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Tommy Ray Young was born on December 4, 1928 in Southard, Oklahoma to Curnel and Fern (Foster) Young. He attended school in Southard and Canton, Oklahoma.

Tommy was married for 37 years to his soul mate, Linda Jane (Walker) Young. He made homes in Canton and Watonga prior to moving to their current home in Woodward, Oklahoma where he has resided for the past 36 years until his death. Linda preceded Tommy in death on October 16, 2012.

Tommy lived his life to the fullest, enjoying his many business ventures. He was a self made man and took advantage of every opportunity life afforded him. Tommy was involved in many aspects of business. He started out in Farming and Custom Harvesting with his father and brother, cutting wheat from Oklahoma to North Dakota and remained involved in farming and ranching throughout his life. He became an independent order buyer in the cattle industry which he continued for many years. He had a passion for horse racing, owning quarter horses and thoroughbreds. He was instrumental in bringing horse racing to Oklahoma and served as a member of the original board of the Racing Commission. Tommy also had interest in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Tommy was a member of the Woodward Elks and the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association. Tommy enjoyed quail hunting, golf, watching his grandchildren play sports, and going to watch his racehorses run.

He is survived by his five children, Beverly Garman, Houston, Texas; Mike Young and wife Melody, Woodward; Kathy Young, Oklahoma City; Greg Young and wife Lorinda, Woodward; Steve Young, Woodward; nine grandchildren, Melissa Scandariato, Austin, Texas; Michelle Garman, Austin, Texas; Heather Garman, Springs, Texas; Nicole Garman and Chris Roles, Springs, Texas; Chris Young and wife Kelly, Los Alamos, New Mexico; Dr. Vincent Young O.D. and wife Dr. Lindsey Young O.D., Blanchard, Oklahoma; Tyson Young and wife Laura, Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Lake Young, Woodward; Tanner Young, Woodward; ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Patty Neely and husband David, Woodward; Sandra Perkins and husband Keith, Duncan; brother-in-law, Doug Walker and wife Jan, Greenfield, Oklahoma.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Curnel and Fern Young; loving wife, Linda Jane (Walker) Young; one great-grandchild, Adalynn Roles; son-in-law, Gerald Garman; brother George Young; father-in-law, Lloyd Walker; mother-in-law, Pauline Walker; and Joyce Young, mother of his five children.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice with the funeral home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
