Funeral: 2:00 PM Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 - Billings Funeral Home Chapel

Interment: Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 - Elmwood Cemetery Larry D. Steuart, 68 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in the Claremore VA Center in Claremore. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the United States Army providing military rites.

Larry Dean Steuart was born on March 9, 1948 in Woodward, Oklahoma; the son of William Davis and Talitha Lorena (Powell) Steuart. Larry grew up in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 1966. He attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Central State University in Edmond.

He was inducted into the United States Army in 1968 and served his country during Vietnam. He served in Cambodia as Long Range Patrol Sergeant and finished as a Staff Sergeant. Larry earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Combat Medal and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Larry worked as a Crew Chief for surveying companies in Ft. Worth, Texas and Oklahoma City before moving to Woodward where he was a Foreman for IMS. Larry received great joy in helping others and being with his family. He loved to camp, fish, swim, shoot guns, reading, and listening to music. He supported the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. He assisted people who couldn’t afford to pay for funerals. He spent the last 3 ½ years at the Claremore Veterans Center where he was a vital asset to other veterans. He was always helping somebody.

He was baptized with his father and brothers at a young age. Larry was a member of the Claremore House of Prayer and attended church while at the VA Center.

He is survived by two sons, Gary B. Steuart and wife Donna of Ft. Worth, Texas, Chris Steuart and wife Alicia of Ft. Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Lawson, Elliot, Aidan, and Emily Steuart; Larry’s twin brother, Gary D. Steuart and wife Debra of Claremore; his other brother Mike Steuart of Enid; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Talitha and Bill Steuart, two brothers, Billy Wade Steuart and John Edward Dobyns.
