Chaster Martin "Chet" Raney

February 18, 1963 ~ March 3, 2019

Chet Raney, 56 year old Woodward resident, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Chester Martin Raney was born on February 18, 1963 in Muleshoe, Texas to William Wayne Raney and Tresha Faye (Jones) Raney O Quin. Chet grew up in Perryton, Texas and graduated from Perryton High School in 1981.

He was united in marriage to Leslie Stewart on June 29, 1991 in Perryton, Texas. They made their home in Norman before moving to Woodward in 1993. They were blessed with a daughter Avery.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Leslie Raney of the home; one daughter Avery Raney of Woodward; his mother, Tresha O Quin of Farwell, Texas, step-mother Patti Raney of Laferia, Texas; two brothers, Rick Raney and wife Marli of Clovis, New Mexico, Robert O Quin and wife Kim of Fort Worth, Texas; four sisters, Pam Heisler of St. Louis, Missouri, Starla Torbert and husband Kent of Stinnett, Texas, Paula Kern and husband Darrel of Oklahoma City; Karla Escamilla and husband Lloyd of Kingwood, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Max and Carla Stewart of Wylie, Texas, Bim and Roxie Stewart of Perryton, Texas, Connie Carpenter of Henderson, Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his fathers, Wayne Raney and Carl O Quin.

Chet worked for many years in the oilfield, starting out at Capricorn in Perryton, where he moved up quickly in the company. After several other jobs in Texas and a near-fatal accident, Chet returned to Perryton in 1989, where he met Leslie. They married two years later at the Full Gospel Church in Perryton. In Woodward, Chet was employed by Diamond Services for almost twenty years. He worked briefly for RenCo and was currently enjoying his (dream) job with Air Products when he became ill.

Chet loved OU football, which is surprising since he came from Texas. However, with a little Stewart influence, the Sooners won his heart. His fondest and most discussed game was in 2000 when OU beat Nebraska and went on to win the National Championship.

Chet loved people and was an avid golfer and hunter. He even requested that the port for his cancer treatments be placed on the side that would allow him to still shoot his gun. He and his buddies also enjoyed many fishing trips in Oklahoma and Missouri, and he especially loved the ones to Canada.

His greatest joy was his daughter, Avery Marie, who was born April 25, 1998. He was her biggest fan whether it was cheering from the sidelines of a softball game or attending dance competitions and recitals. When Avery was three years old, he took her to dance lessons and would even practice her leaps with her. No matter what Avery had going on, Chet was there encouraging her and enjoying every moment.
