Betty Jean Harbour Mitchell

Betty Mitchell, 89 year old Woodward resident, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2022 at the First Christian Church with Reverend Ronnie Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Betty Jean (Harbour) Mitchell was born on February 11, 1933 in Gage, Oklahoma to Charles Garrow and Helen Esther (Flaherty) Harbour. Betty grew up in Gage and graduated from Gage High School. She was united in marriage to Larry Gerald Mitchell on May 21, 1951 in Arnett, Oklahoma. They made their home in several places including, San Antonio, Texas, Oceanside, California, Fallbrook, California, and Rapid City, South Dakota, before settling in Woodward. Betty worked at Otasco, TG&Y, and the Woodward Hospital for several years.

Betty was a lifelong member of the Woodward First Christian Church. She was also a member of the Woodward Moose Lodge and the Red Hatters Club. Betty enjoyed traveling to Durango, Colorado, playing cards, her Sunday School class, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed spending time on her Ipad looking at Facebook.

She is survived by her three sons: Greg Mitchell and wife Cheryl, Mike Mitchell and wife Maria, Bob Mitchell and wife Denise, all of Woodward; one daughter, Sherry Thurman and husband Bob of Boerne, Texas; grandchildren: Priscilla Anderson and her husband of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Mitchell, Matthew Thurman of Boerne, Texas, Elisabeth Thurman of Boerne, Texas, Chris Mitchell of Woodward, Michael Mitchell II, Nick Mitchell of Oklahoma City, Britton and Dannie Mitchell of Oklahoma City, Tanner Read of Woodward, Madison Read of Woodward, Stacie and Kevin Pettigrew of Woodward, Stephanie and Ty Richey of Woodward, Steven and Kelsey Mitchell of McAlester, Ali and Torry Mills of Gilbert, Arizona, Alice Mills of Amarillo, Texas; great-grandchildren: Paris Mitchell, Haley Mitchell, Zoey Mitchell, Blake, Adalyn and Rhett Read, Kimberlyn Thurman, Ellie, Eli and Evie Pettigrew, Lily and Isla Mitchell, Penelope and Margot Richey, Ashley, Aaron, Jeremy, Ryan, Sara, and Elisabeth Mills, and a great-grandson due in March of 2023; two sisters, Carol Short of Spearman, Texas, Shirly Smith of Gage; other relatives and many friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Harbour, husband Larry Gerald Mitchell, one brother Butch Harbour, an infant son, Larry Darrell Mitchell, a daughter, Kimberly Lynn Read, two grandchildren, Zachery and Lakin Ruppel.

Memorials may be made to the Northwest Domestic Crisis Center with the funeral accepting the contributions.
