Guyla Argene McDowell Marshall

Guyla Marshall, 78-year-old Woodward resident, passed away Monday, February 14, 2022, in Woodward, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2022, at Billings Funeral Home Chapel, Woodward, Oklahoma. The family will receive of friends at Billings Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m Thursday, February 17, 2022. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Guyla Argene (McDowell) Marshall was born on July 17, 1943, in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Daniel Guy and Argene Francis (Thomas) McDowell. Guyla grew up in Woodward, attended Woodward Schools, and graduated with the class of 1961. She then graduated from Beetch's Beauty College in Enid, Oklahoma in 1963. On July 14, 1964, Guyla married Buck Sibley in Woodward, and to this union three daughters were born, Monica, Michelle, and Melanie. They made their home in Woodward, where Guyla worked as a waitress and a secretary.

On April 4, 1980, Guyla married Tom Marshall and added two more daughters, Misty and LaDona, to the family. Guyla started working as a bank teller for Stock Exchange Bank in 1980 and worked there for 29 years, ending her banking career as head teller at the Downs Branch. Guyla enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and gardening as her hobbies. She loved traveling to visit family, and especially enjoyed two trips to Europe with her daughter Melanie and trips to Lake City, Colorado, and Bellingham, Washington for music festivals. Guyla took many motorcycle trips with her husband, Tom, and they also traveled to the Amana Colonies, which was one of her favorite memories.

Upon retirement, Guyla was very active in the community. She served as Treasurer for Woodward Alumni Association and volunteered at AllianceHealth Woodward. She was well known as an excellent cook who would work for hours to prepare meals for her family. For several years, Guyla cooked for Wednesday night choir practice at New Horizon United Methodist Church. She highly enjoyed the New Horizon mission trips to UMCOR Sager-Brown Depot in Baldwin, Louisiana, as well as various other mission projects, including the Clinton Indian mission. For the last couple of years, Guyla lived at Providence Place. She thoroughly enjoyed the activities, and truly loved all of the staff members and her many friends there.

She is survived by her three daughters: Monica Baird Stanley and husband Bill Stanley of Woodward, Oklahoma; Michelle Sibley and husband David Palmer of Amarillo, Texas; and Melanie Sibley of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren: Ricky Frech and wife Amy Pickens of Collierville, Tennessee; Matthew Frech and wife Mikayla of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Taylor Frech of Dallas, Texas; brothers Joe McDowell and wife Linda of Ft. Worth, Texas; Jay McDowell and wife Cecilia of Granbury, Texas; and Paul McDowell and wife Joyce of Kingston, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Clayton Evans and wife Judy of Woodward, Oklahoma; and step-daughters Misty Bryant of Alva, Oklahoma, and LaDona Marshall Barber of Woodward, Oklahoma; many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Guyla was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law; her husband, Tom Marshall, on February 3, 2009; her sister Elaine Dewald and brother-in-law Chet; and brothers Earl McDowell, Don McDowell, and David McDowell.

Memorials may be made to the Mission Fund at New Horizon United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
