David Allen Jensen

jensen-d-a

January 7, 1937 ~ June 8, 2021

Dean Allen Jensen was born May 23, 1929, in Mason City, IA, to Aksel Karl and Darlene Ducene (Carlsen) Jensen. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 21, 2021. He moved to Sandstone, MN, at the age of five and graduated from Sandstone High School in 1947. During the summers following his sophomore year, Dean worked on the Great Lakes in the shipping industry moving iron ore, automobiles, and grain from Minnesota to different ports throughout the Great Lakes. He continued after high school until January 1951, when he entered the US Army. Following his honorable discharge in January 1953, Dean returned to working on the Great Lakes. In December 1953, Dean met Alice Ness who would become his bride on November 13, 1954. To this marriage, seven children were born. This November they would have celebrated 67 years together.

Dean started his career in the chemical fertilizer industry in Omaha, NE, and continued with moves to St. Paul, MN, Clinton, IA, East Dubuque, IL, Fort Madison, IA, Dubuque, IA, Milledgeville, GA, and finally retiring as Plant Manager for Bison Nitrogen (now CF Industries) in Woodward.

Following retirement Dean and Alice traveled the United States from Alaska to Prince Edward Island. They spent fifteen winters in Apache Junction, AZ, enjoying the warmer winter months and making new friends.

Dean was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, all of which provided many fond memories for him

Dean is survived by his wife, Alice, children John (Melissa) Jensen of Cedar Falls, IA, Sandra Jensen of Enid, Teresa Jensen of Woodward, Mike (Pam) Jensen of Sharon, Pat (Vic) Brown of Enid, Thomas Jensen of Woodward, and Tim (Rhonda) Jensen of Tuttle, sisters Joyce Volk of Sandstone, MN, and Carol (Jim) Dollar of Lake City, MN, brother-in-law Edward (Bev) Ness of Centralia, MO, eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Aksel and Darlene Jensen, stepfather Holger Larson, mother- and father-in-law James and Mildred Ness, brother-in-law Larry Volk, sister-in-law Agnes and husband Fred Sawatzky, sister-in-law Ann and husband Marvin Ingemansen.

His many 'Deanisms', will be carried on by his children. One of his favorites, "God made a few perfect heads... the rest he put hair on" really captured the fun and sense of humor of Dean.

A Rosary Vigil will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Woodward, OK. The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, June 25, 2021. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery..
