THELMA BELLE IRWIN

12 Aug 1907 - 9 Mar 1996

WOODWARD - The funeral for Thelma Belle Proctor Irwin, 88, will be at 10 a.m. today at the First Christian Church in Woodward. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Zwanziger Funeral Home.

She was born Aug. 12, 1907, in Woodlawn, Miss., to George Lewis and Araanna Beasley Proctor and died Saturday, March 9, 1996, along with her husband, Raymond, as the result of an automobile-train accident. She had moved with her parents to Rocky Ford, Colo., where she graduated from high school. She then attended Corwin's Nursing School at Pueblo, Colo.

On April 20, 1928 she married Raymond Henry Irwin at Rocky Ford, Colo. They settled in Woodward where they had lived the past 67 years. She was an active member and officer of the First Christian Church, AARP, Woodward Senior Citizens and Northwest Oklahoma State Beekeepers Association. She also served as president and vice president of the Woodward Chapter of AARP and president of the Christian Women's Guild.

Surviving are one son, retired USAF Col. Joseph Thomas Irwin; two brothers, Vernon Proctor and Leonard Proctor, both of Colorado; two sisters, Rosalee Scarborough of Garden City, Kan., and June Artzer of Denver, Colo.; and two granchildren.

She was preceeded in death by one daughter, eight brothers and one sister.
