Earl A. Handley

June 12, 1931 ~ April 15, 2020

Earl A. Handley was born June 12, 1931, in Freedom, Oklahoma, to Virgil Vernon and Leona Ruth Handley. As a youth, he developed a passion for construction. He attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a degree in Architectural Engineering.

He married Delberta (Del) Marie Wilson on December 23, 1957. After graduating he was recruited to work for Lion Oil Refinery, and they moved to El Dorado, AR , where they lived and raised their family for 36 years. Upon retirement, Earl & Del moved , back to their roots in Oklahoma and in 2000, Delberta passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Earl was proud to be an active Gideon a Lay Preacher and was a member of Garland Road Baptist Church in Enid Oklahoma. In 2012, Earl was married to Betty Lafitte and they lived in Enid until her death in 2019. For the last year he has lived in Moundville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Moundville, AL where he continued sharing his witness and handing out Gideon bibles. He attended Stewart United Methodist Church with his daughter and son-in-law, Debi and Tommy Martin.

He is survived by his two daughters, Cindy Handley of Hattiesburg, MS and Debi Martin & her husband, Tommy of Moundville, AL; grandchildren, Bret Carr & wife Brandi, Sara Carr, Savannah Shaw, Rachel Hobson and Michael Martin; great-grandchildren Cruise, Kingston, Bartleigh, Steven Michael and Arianna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Handley and wife Vivian and Leona Handley Peck and husband Clayton, wife Delberta Handley, an infant son, Delbert Kent, brothers Vernon Handley, Bob Handley, Jerry Handley, and sister Ruth (Handley) Wanger; as well as infant brothers, Leo Allen and Jimmy Bert and his second wife Betty Lafitte Handley. Many, thanks to the loving family we acquired at MHR. Earl loved each and every one of you. To his special Angels - you know who you are and we pray for your life to be richly blessed for the loving way you cared for our daddy.

Due to these unprecedented times, there will be only a private graveside service. If you wish to honor Earls life, please donate to the Gideons International, to Garland Road Baptist Church, Enid, OK, or to Stewart United Methodist Church, Moundville, AL.
