Woodward, Okla. — Eldon Damron, 88 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 21, 2013 in the First Assembly of God Church with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles “Eldon” Damron was born on a ranch south of Woodward, Oklahoma on August 3, 1925 the son of Thomas Bryan and Thelma Ruth Elizabeth (McLain) Damron. Eldon spent his childhood in the Woodward area and attended Woodward Public Schools. At the age of 18 during his senior year of high school Eldon enlisted in the United States Navy on November 3, 1943. On January 10, 1945 Eldon was united in marriage to Veda Eileen Colby when they eloped to Taloga. Eldon and Eileen made their home in Woodward and were blessed with 6 children. On January 18, 1946 Eldon was Honorably Discharged. Early in his working career Eldon worked as a delivery man. He retired from Fisher Grain as a Grain Elevator Supervisor. In an effort to show appreciation for his service to his country Eldon received his High School Diploma in 2013.

Eldon enjoyed reading, studying the Bible, woodworking, camping and spending time with his family.

He was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Church since the age of 4. He enjoyed his church family greatly looked forward to attending services.

Eldon was a charter member of the Gideons International Woodward camp, and a member of the American Legion Post in Woodward.

Eldon is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years Eileen of the home; three daughters, Charleen Carlile and husband Rick of Enid; Eldena Smith and husband Jim of Mutual; LaFonda Damron of Woodward; two sons, Don Damron and wife Becky of Woodward; Tom Damron and wife Sandy of Yukon; nine grandchildren, J.T. Smith and wife Donitia; Alyssa Smith; Brent Damron and wife Laurie; Kristi Burkhart and husband Brian; Nathan Carlile and wife Becky; Devin Carlile and wife Tara; Brock Carlile and wife Amanda; Gina Cardines and husband Rick; Farrah Schmidt and husband Dustin; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Johnson and husband Eldon of Beggs; several other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Paula Gayle Damron; grandson, R.C. Thonton II; sister, Dortha Nell (Dot) Brantley; brother, Billy Dale (Buddy) Damron.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Church building fund or to Gideon International with the funeral accepting the contributions.
