Joseph Thompson Castor

Joe Castor, 71 year old retired Woodward Police Officer, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021 near Boise City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church of Woodward. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Joseph Thompson Castor was born on July 5, 1949 in Mooreland, Oklahoma to Willis C. "Bill" and Velma Jean (Salisbury) Castor. The family was living south of Sharon when Joe was born, they then moved to the Camargo area until Joe was in the third grade. They then moved to Mutual and Joe graduated from Mutual High School with the class of 1967. He was united in marriage to Loretta Jean Layton on April 15, 1968 at the Mutual Methodist Church in Mutual, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Woodward and later lived in Elk City, Tangier, Enid, Cherokee, and Blackwell before moving back to Woodward. They were blessed with three children: Shayne, Misty, and Shelley.

He worked for UPS, was a welder and farmer and retired from the Woodward Police Department as a Lieutenant in 2017. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a mentor to many police officers during his years at the police department.

Joes greatest times were spent with his family, friends, and co-workers. He loved telling stories about growing up as a wildchild, his sense of humor was amazing. His Love for Loretta was beyond the Heavens, his love for all of the family was deep. Joe didn’t know a stranger, he would help anyone in need. His work ethics were above and beyond. He always said " if your are going to do a job, do it right and do it the first time"!! Joe loved family get together's, homemade ice cream, his dogs, hunting, fishing, farming, and telling stories. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Loretta Castor of the home; one son, Shayne Castor and wife Daniela of Woodward; two daughters: Misty Comstock and husband Jeff of Woodward, Shelley Clark and husband Robbie of Mooreland; eight grandchildren: Kayli and David Nelson, Kari Castor, Michael and Paige Comstock, Miranda and Kaleb Smith, Devon and Alena Comstock, Stetson and Whitney Clark, Austin Clark, Lindsay and Jakobe Calaway; 10 great-grandchildren and two on the way; one brother Claude Castor and wife Annette of Piedmont; sister-in-law, Charlotte Castor; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Velma Jean (Tiny) Castor, one brother Frank Castor and lots of aunts and uncles.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer or Dementia research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
