Funeral: 2:00 PM Thursday, May 7th, 2015 - First United Methodist Church of Woodward

Interment: Thursday, May 7th, 2015- Dunlap Cemetery

Barbara J. Heckart, 79 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 in the First United Methodist Church of Woodward with the Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunlap Cemetery, Mutual, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Barbara Jean (Garvie) Heckart was born November 20, 1935 at Quinlan, Oklahoma to Alexander (Bud) and Lois Evelyn (Willier) Garvie. The family lived in Woodward for seven years and then moved to Mutual. Barbara had two brothers, Charles and John. Barbara graduated from Mutual High School in 1953. On October 24, of the same year she married Donnie Heckart. Barbara and Donnie made their home in Woodward and two sons were born to this union, Kenny and Steve. She worked for Lucas Nursery and then J.W.’s Nursery for 31 years.

Barbara enjoyed nothing more than working in her beautiful yard and tending to her flowers.

She was member of the First United Methodist Church of Woodward. Barbara was very active in the United Methodist Women.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years Donnie of the home; two sons, Kenny Heckart and wife Valerie of Woodward; Steve Heckart and wife Rhonda of Okeene; five grandchildren, Sydnie Bero and husband Jeremy; Taylor Heckart; Regan Heckart; Mitchel Heckart; and Seth Heckart; one great-grandson, Gavin Marshall Bero; two brothers, Charles Garvie of Burlington; John Garvie and wife Pam of Edmond; other family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister-in-law, Karen Garvie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Women with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
