Martha Elaine was born on September 16, 1953, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Blanche and Tom Kennedy. She passed away on October 26, 2019, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 8 days.

Martha graduated from Woodward High School in 1971 and received her undergraduate degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1975. She earned her doctorate of education degree from Oklahoma State University in 1997. Prior to Dr. Evans' tenure at Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU), her teaching career included middle school science education in Texas and Oklahoma City and science education at Langston University.

Dr. Evans joined the NWOSU faculty in the fall of 1999, again teaching science education. While at NWOSU, she met and married John Evans on August 31, 2002.

After her retirement as an NWOSU professor, Dr. Evans established a free tutoring program in Alva helping students from kindergarten through college in any subject needed. If she was not an expert in a subject, she either found someone who did, or learned the subject herself. Dr. Evans enjoyed singing in the choir and ladies trio at NWOSU and Act I Theater. Memberships included NSTA, OEA, P.E.O. Chapter ET Alva and several bridge groups. She enjoyed helping others, feeding people and being with family and friends.

Dr. Evans was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael T. Kennedy, and niece Jori Sine.

She is survived by her husband John of the home; her children by her first marriage, Andrea Boedecker D.O. of Niwot, Colorado, and Brian and his wife Sarah Boedecker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; mother Sue Kennedy of El Reno, Oklahoma; sister Mary and husband Joe Sine; four grandchildren, Tommy, Abby, Tina and Gia; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
