Waynoka Cemetery


Funeral services for Gwendolyn Elenor Simmons will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.
Gwendolyn Elenor Simmons, daughter of the late Herbert and Sara Elsie (Linder) Lee, was born July 31, 1921, at Waynoka, and passed away May 18, at Alva, at the age of 90 years, 9 months, and 18 days.
Gwen graduated from Rose Valley School north of Waynoka. On July 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to Carl Stephen Simmons at Alva. They lived in Enid; Wichita, Kan.; Anthony, Kan.; and Woodward before returning to Alva. She enjoyed racing horses and spending time with her grandkids.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; one son, Stephen Lee Simmons; one brother, Harold Lee; and two sisters, Dorothy Lee and Irene McCray.
Gwen is survived by one son, Terry Dean Simmons of Dacoma; seven grandchildren, Teresa Heaton of St. Charles, Missouri, Pamela Thornberg of Hayesville, Kansas, Wade Simmons of Kansas City, Missouri, Shirley Long of Papillion, Nebraska; Natalie Huntley of Omaha, Nebraska, Sara Churchill of Dacoma, and Terrie Lynn Spradlin of Granbury, Texas; 14 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Beadles Activity Fund.
