WAYNOKA — Funeral service for Velma Marjorie Sampson will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Waynoka, Okla., with Rev. David Shaw officiating. Interment will be in Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka, LLC.

Velma Marjorie Sampson, daughter of the late Vernon Raymond and Ruth Cora (Stevens) Hartley, was born May 28, 1921, in Pawhuska, Okla., and passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010, in Waynoka, Okla., at the age of 89 years and 6 days.

Velma moved around with her family before settling in Waynoka. She attended school in Waynoka.

On May 18, 1940, she was united in marriage to Charlie Raymond Sampson in Fairview, Okla. To this union three daughters were born, Doris Marie, Carolyn Sue and Charlene Kay. She and Charlie made their home in Waynoka.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, N.A.R.V.E, W.F.F. Club, W.O.L.F. (Baptist Ladies group), Waynoka Saddle Club, Waynoka Senior Citizens and the “Go Tell” Sunday school class. Velma enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, gardening, her family and spending the summers in the mountains of Colorado.

Besides her parents and husband, Charlie, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Eugene Hartley, Virgil Hartley, Verna Goff, Nelta Coulter, Mildred Sampson and Maxine Helton, and one grandson, Jason Conaway.

Velma is survived by her daughters, Doris Smiley and her husband Sidney of Waynoka, Carolyn Kysar and her husband Jerry of Amarillo, Texas, and Charlene Bixler and her husband Bill of Waynoka; five grandchildren, Glynis Cave and her husband Ted of Midland, Texas, Deidre Stoddard and her husband Jody of Amarillo, Texas, Scott Smiley of Waynoka, Lance Bixler of Waynoka, and Mindy Jennings and her husband Sean of Irving, Texas; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Waynoka Senior Citizens.
