Jennie Margaret Newton, daughter of the late John and Cora (Beard) Whiteneck, was born near Aline, OK on Oct. 29, 1903, and passed away at the Waynoka Nursing Home on Feb. 27, 2002, at the age of 98 years, 3 months and 18 days.
She attended grade school in Woods County and Major County, then attended Northwestern State College at Alva, OK. She taught school eleven years in rural schools in Alfalfa Co. & Major Co.
In Aug. of 1926, she was united in marriage to Alfred Melrose at her father's home in Major Co. He preceded her in death.
Jennie was a member of the Church of the Brethren near Aline, OK.
On Nov. 27, 1934, she and Charlie E. Newton were married at Carrier, OK. They made their home at Waynoka.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by both husbands, one son, Wilbur Melrose, two step-sons, James K. Newton and Russell Newton, two step-daughters, Opal Oringderfand and Velma Dyer, three brothers, Dr. John Whitneck, Wray Whiteneck, and Dr. Wilbur Whiteneck and three sisters, Lucy Prentice, Ida Prentice and Lola Jeffries.
Jennie is survivied by her son, Charles Newton and his wife, Jessie of Waynoka, two step-daughters, Ann Hague and Roberta Roberts, both of Woodward, OK, two brothers, Dr. Rhonald Whiteneck of Normon, OK and Eldon Whiteneck of Sarcoxie, MO.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 20 step-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Casket bearers were: Kent Hague, Chuck Hague, Kevin Newton, Carl Wade Newton, Timothy R. Newton and Timothy C. Newton.
Interment was in the Waynoka, OK Municipal Cemetery. Services were held in the First Baptist Church of Waynoka, OK with the Pastor John Brint of the Church of God officiating. Romana Cummings sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer" Congregational was "Amazing Grace"
Note from Jean Beals Whiteneck. This was the obit printed on the back of the memorial hand out at the funeral. Not all of Jennie's brothers and family are listed that preceded her in death. She had a son, Thomas Alvin Newton, who preceded her in death in 1951, and brothers, Perry J. Whiteneck, Dr. Otho Whiteneck and Alpha Whiteneck
