Waynoka Cemetery


ENID — The funeral for Shirley Joy Davidson, 87, of Alva, formerly of Waynoka, will be 10 a.m. today, Jan. 23, 2010, at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel, Alva. The Rev. Bob Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Waynoka Municipal Cemetery.

She was born July 30, 1922, in Fairvalley to Burton and Ora Mae Littrell Denney and died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, in Alva.

She was raised in Fairvalley, where she attended elementary and grade school. She graduated from Horace Mann High School, Alva, in 1940. She then attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University while helping out on the farm and worked at the Fairvalley Post Office.

She married Kenneth H. Davidson Jan. 3, 1944. They made their home in Waynoka. She worked at Waynoka Hospital, Coury’s Department Store, Long’s Laundry, Peggy’s Restaurant and helped run Davidson’s 66 Station with her husband. She wrote and published several poems and wrote weekly news columns for the Waynoka Enterprise, Woods County News and Woodward News. She was past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star, mother adviser of the Order of Rainbow for Girls and worked on the election board. She was a member of city council, chamber of commerce, Waynoka Saddle Club, Waynoka Super Scribblers Club, Cloverleaf Club, S.E.B. Club and held a lifetime membership in the Ladies Auxiliary of Freedom Cimarron Cowhand Association. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Waynoka. She moved to Alva in 1994, where she attended Alva Church of God. In 2007, she moved to Share Convalescent Home.

Surviving are one daughter, Marietta Washington of Alva; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, three brothers, one sister and one grandson.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Waynoka EMT’s or Alva EMT’s.
