Enid, OK — The funeral for Pearl Marie McMurphy, 96, of Alva, will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Alva First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Terry Martindale and Bill Kalfas will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Marshall Funeral Home, Alva.

She was born May 30, 1913, on a farm northwest of Alva to Francis Marion and Myrtle Violet Moore Erikson and died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in Alva.

She attended Faulkner and Blackwell schools and graduated from Alva High School. She obtained her teaching certificate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

She married Don Gaylord McMurphy Nov. 23, 1935, in Alva. They farmed and ranched northwest of Alva. She worked at the ASCS office, Munson Hatchery and was a substitute teacher at Farry School. She was a member of Farry Helpers Club and Farry Quilters. She also was involved in organizing the first Farry class reunion.

Surviving are one daughter, Sherry Dee Harzman of Alva; one brother, Earl Erikson of Alva; one sister, Lorna Dee Phillips of Alva; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, five brothers and four sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Freedom Fire Department or Freedom Ambulance Service.
