Charles A. "Charlie" McDaniel Jr., 75, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Paramount Baptist Church with Dr.
Gil Lain, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180
Canyon Drive.
Mr. McDaniel was born near Waynoka, Okla., and graduated from Waynoka High
School in 1945. He attended Oklahoma A&M University. He lived in Canadian
for seven years, moving to Amarillo in 1954. He married Patricia Morris in
1949. Mr. McDaniel worked as a locomotive fireman/engineer for Santa Fe
Railway Co. for almost 46 years, retiring in 1993.
Concurrent with full-time service with Santa Fe, McDaniel also served as
treasurer-manager of Santa Fe Operating Employees Federal Credit Union
from 1956 to 1976. McDaniel also served as president and local chairman
for Division 299, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and was elected
general chairman of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers on Santa Fe,
serving in that capacity until retirement in 1993.
Mr. McDaniel married Pat Wallace in 1994, in Amarillo. He was a charter
member of Paramount Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic
bodies Amarillo Lodge No. 731 A.F.&A.M., Council No. 134 R&S.M. Chapter
No. 196, R.A.M., Commandery No. 48, and Knights Templar, all of Amarillo,
and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in Guthrie, Okla. Mr. McDaniel was
an avid coin collector and belonged to Amarillo Numismatic Association,
American Contract Bridge League and Amarillo Senior Citizens Association.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Morris McDaniel, and
a son, Sidney McDaniel.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve McDaniel of Amarillo and James Wallace of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters, Marilyn McDaniel Johnson, Pati Wallace Diggs and Chris Wallace Weems, all of Amarillo; two sisters, Jean
Stanka of Houston and Nelle Briggs of Stillwater, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
