Funeral services for Verna Lee Perfect will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Roggow officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Verna will lie in state Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Verna Lee Lillian (Wilson) Perfect was born on September 21, 1932, at a farmhouse east of Alva in a rural area known as Ashley to Viola Wiersig and Joe Wilson. At the age of four, John Hein became her Forever Daddy. She passed from this life on September 12, 2020, at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 22 days.

Verna Lee attended the Zion Lutheran School in Alva through her elementary years and graduated from Alva High School with the Class of 1950. After high school graduation she moved to Oklahoma City, attended secretarial school and resided at Tinker Air Force Base. She returned to Alva and married the love of her life, Leon Perfect, on December 19, 1954. They were married almost 60 years and remained in Alva the entire time. To this marriage two children were born, LeAnn Marie and Jerry Leon.

Verna Lee held several secretarial positions in Alva. She worked for Gleyre's TV and Appliance, she managed the five public school cafeterias, and she was the Alva High School principal's secretary from 1968 until 1980. She then moved to NWOSU and became the Civil Service secretary for the ROTC Department. She retired from this position in 1988.

Verna Lee loved reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing Bridge, playing marbles, watching sports, drinking coffee, cooking traveling, crocheting, and being with family and friends. She was well known for her peanut brittle, Christmas candy, and homemade desserts and pies. She loved making these items because she had an insatiable sweet tooth. A host of friends also enjoyed stopping by to enjoy the treats and a pot of fresh coffee.

Verna Lee was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Alva and a member of the Ruth Circle. She managed the Lutheran Pre-School and Day Care for several years. She was also active in helping with the noon meals for college students and helped with the annual noodle dinner.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; two brother-in-laws, David Perfect and Loren Perfect; and one sister-in-law, Georgia Perfect.

Her memory is cherished by her daughter, LeAnn Tatro and husband, Ron (of Vici, Oklahoma) and her son, Jerry Perfect and wife, Jill (of Kansas City, Missouri); four grandchildren that she was so proud of, Brian Tatro (of Yukon), Brandon Tatro (of San Francisco, California), Joshua Perfect (of Roeland Park, Kansas), and Sarah Perfect (of Kansas City; Missouri); two remaining sister-in-laws, Sally Wiersig and husband, Larry (of Alva) and Vickie Keesee and husband, Tom (of Bethany); several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer's research or the NWOSU Foundation.
