A memorial service for Harold "Dean" Honer, 85, will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Alva Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Timothy Roggow officiating. Burial services will be at a later date under the direction of Wharton Funeral Chapel.

Dean was born in Alva, on November 12, 1936, to Christiana Maria (Hort), and Paul Joseph Honer Sr. He passed away at Beadles Nursing Home, February 27, 2022, at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 15 days.

Dean attended Alva High School, Northwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated from Oklahoma State University. Dean married Jane Gray and they had two children, Todd Alan and Stacy Diann.

He worked at Alva State Bank as a loan officer for many years. Then he moved on to Farm Bureau Insurance, WB Johnston's Grain and for the United States Postal Service.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and was baptized, on November 24, 1936, and confirmed, April 2, 1950. He served as a trustee in the church for many years.

Dean enjoyed attending stock shows with Todd and raised registered Angus and Shorthorn cattle. He also enjoyed attending his children's sporting events.

Dean was preceded in death by his father, Paul Joseph Sr., a brother, Paul Joseph Jr., and his mother, Christina Maria Honer.

Dean is survived by his son, Todd Honer and wife, Tammera of Oklahoma City, and a daughter, Stacy McGinnis and her husband, Dr. Don McGinnis of Edmond, OK. 10 grandchildren; Tatum and Blake Lehl of Alva, OK, Tyce and Teagan Honer of Oklahoma City, Austin and Sarah McGinnis of Oklahoma City, Tyler McGinnis of Des Moines, Iowa, Connor and Baillie McGinnis of Oklahoma City, and Garrett McGinnis of Edmond, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dean's honor to Alva Zion Lutheran Church or Beadles Nursing Home through Wharton Funeral Chapel.
