Lookout Cemetery


The funeral for Eileen Bliss Darnell, 90, of Alva, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Wharton Funeral Chapel. The Rev. John Clapp will officiate. Burial will be in Lookout Cemetery.

She was born May 5, 1916, in Woods County to Jim and Opal Bliss and died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Providence Memorial Hospital, El Paso, Texas.

She was home-schooled by her mother for three years, then attended a one-room schoolhouse in Lookout. She later attended high school and college in Alva. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State Teachers College. She later became certified and license as a medical technologist. She taught at Coy School. She also coached the wrestling team to the Oklahoma small school state championship. She married Victor Lee Darnell.

Surviving are two sons, Jim Darnell and Eric Darnell; one sister, Lois Layton; and five grandchildren.
