The funeral for Calvin Dean Wilson, 76, of Freedom, will be 10:30 a.m. today, April 21, 2009, at Freedom School Auditorium, Freedom. Pastors Woody Harmon and Mark Kinkle will officiate. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery. Arrange-ments are by Wharton Funeral Chapel Inc., Alva.

He was born April 29, 1932, in Freedom to Carrie French and Horace Wilson and died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Enid Integris Northwest Specialty Hospital.

He attended Huston Valley, Pleasent Hill rural grade schools and Freedom High School.

He married Helen Elizabeth "Betty" Hackney April 29, 1951, in Alva. They lived and worked in Comanche County, Kan., for Lloyd Hackney, Parker and Beeley Ranch and Gregg Ranch before moving to Mooreland, where he worked for Western Farmers Electric. He then moved to Freedom, where he operated Freedom Propane Co. He also farmed and ranched. She died Nov. 6, 2004.

He was a member of Freedom United Methodist Church and Freedom Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are three daughters, Ro Ann Singhurse of Terre Haute, Ind., Sharil Hardy of Oklahoma City and Carol Bowers of Cherokee; two sons, Randy of Freedom and Darol of Monte Vista, Colo.; two sisters, Donna Smith of Mooreland and Linda Elwood of Woodward; one brother, Jack of Carthage, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be made to Freedom School Scholarship Foundation in care of Freedom State Bank.

Helen Elizabeth "Betty" Wilson was born in Coldwater Kansas on January 13, 1932 to Harry and Lottie (Cooper) Hackney and passed away on November 6, 2004 at St. Mary's Regional Hospital in Enid at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 23 days. 
Services were held Tuesday at Freedom United Methodist Church with Rev. Woody Harmon officiating. Burial was in Freedom Cemetery under the direction of Wharton Funeral Chapel. 
Betty graduated from Freedom High School with the Class of 1950. She and Calvin Dean Wilson were married on April 29, 1951 in Alva. 
Preceding her  in death were her parents; her sisters, Laura Murrow and Mildred Hodgson; and her brothers, Scott Hackney, Lloyd Hackney, Phillip Hackney, and George Hackney. 
Survivors include her husband, Dean; her daughters, Deanette Roann Singhurse of Terre Haute, Indiana, Sharil Hardy of Liberal, Kansas, and Carol Kay Bowers of Cherokee; her sons, Randy Dean Wilson of Freedom and Darol Ray Wilson of Monte Vista, Colorado; her brother, Vernie Hackney of Alva; fourteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
