The funeral for Nellie May Burnham, 83, of Freedom, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Freedom Christian Church. The Rev. Mark Kinkle will officiate. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.

She was born April 4, 1926, north of Ringwood to Earnest Gerald and Clara Amy Woodard Smith and died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Share Convalescent Center, Alva.

She moved with her family to the Lookout community, northwest of Freedom, in the 1930s.

She married Warren Keith Burnham Dec. 3, 1941, in Cherokee. They made their home on a farm near Freedom. They moved to Wichita, Kan., in 1955, returning to the family farm in 1961. She was a homemaker and an active partner in the farming and ranching operation. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, active in church and community affairs.

Surviving are her children, Victor, Gene and Rose Ann; one sister, Wanda Helton; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith, one sister and three brothers.
