John Goebel was born at Scranton Kansas Dec. 20, 1864, and after a lingering illness, passed away at his home in Hardtner, Kans., February 7, 1948, his age being eighty-three years one month and seventeen days.
He was united in marriage to Anna Gilcrist and to this union three children were born: Frank Goebel of Denver, Colo; John Goebel, jr. of AtLanta, Ga.; and Jean Goebel Tucker deceased. His wife passed away in June 1896.
In his early manhood he worked in the coal mines of Osage county, Kansas. In 1896 he, with his brothers William, Henry and Frank came to Oklahoma and homesteaded north of the Fritzlan ranch in Woods county.
On Dec. 25, 1905 he was united in marriage to Francis Berry Morris and to this union six children were born: Edison Goebel of Los Angeles Calif.; Phil Goebel of Shelton Wash.; Sgt. Joe Goebel of Salina; Mrs. Wilma Kiefer of Kiowa; Mrs. Marjorie Nagel of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Geneva Roberson of Capron.
In 1913 he sold his farm and moved to Hardtner, where he ran a blacksmith shop until a few years ago. When his health failed, he sold his business and retired. Since that time he has enjoyed hunting and fishing and gardening. He took great pride in his garden. His final illness was of several weeks duration but he bore it patiently to the end.
His brothers William and Henry and a sister Carolin preceded him in deazth. One year ago he lost his brother Frank, and just a week ago his brother Charlie passed away.
Besides his faithful wife and children he is survived by a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews an nieces, a sister Mrs. William Strickenfinger of Scranton, Kansas and many friends.





Lenora F. Goebel

Mrs. Lenora F. Goebel, 96, a former resident of Hardtner, died Thursday, July 3, at the Kiowa District Hospital after a short illness. Born Oct. 5, 1872, in Pettis County, Mo., she was married to John Goebel Dec. 25, 1905, at Scranton. He died in 1948. She was a former resident of Hardtner and had lived in Kiowa for several years.
She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include sons; Phillip and Thomas, both of Burbank, Calif., Joseph, Merritt Island, Fla.; daughters, Mrs. Wilma Keifer, Kiowa, Mrs. Geneva Roberson, Capron, Okla., Mrs. Marjorie Nagel, Weleetka, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5, at the Hardtner United Methodist Church; Samuel A. Warren. Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery, Hardtner.
