Margaret Edna Thompson

Margaret “Peggy” was born Jan. 17, 1921, on the family farm three miles south of Capron, Okla., to Henry and Phoebe (Dickey) Schwerdtfeger and passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, in Kiowa, Kan.

She graduated from Capron High School in 1938, and attended both Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla., and American Business College in Wichita, Kan.

She married James Leon Thompson on Feb. 19, 1943, in Wichita, Kan.

Peggy and her husband were well-known in the community for running a restaurant and general store for many years, as well as being Conklin distributors.

She loved to travel, play cards, crochet, garden and cook. She was well-known for her chocolate cream pies, which were the source of many family scuffles! But most especially, she loved to spend time with her family. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor.

Peggy is survived by her son, Jimmie Thompson and wife Barbara; two daughters, Sheila Ferrell and husband Mickey, and Phoebe Angle and husband Larry; daughter-in-law, Jane Thompson; 10 grandchildren, Patricia Thompson, Michael Thompson and wife Wendi, Tracy Thompson Mickle and husband Dan, Dana Thompson McDonald and husband Sharn, Christy Thompson Hackleman and husband Todd, Audrey Thompson Pore and husband Chad, Amber Ferrell Guffy and husband Danny, Bo Ferrell and wife Megan, Kelsey Angle and Shannon Angle; and 10 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother, Orlie Schwerdtfeger and wife Donna Schwerdtfeger; two sisters, Donna Mae Phillips and Eleanor Ring; a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; three sons, Benny, Danny and Monty; daughter-in-law, Margaret Jo Thompson; her parents, Henry and Phoebe Schwerdtfeger; her sister, Alice Benton and husband Buel; her brother, Virgil Schwerdtfeger and wife Jean; brothers-in-law, Robert Ralph Phillips and William Ring Jr.

Capron-funeral service for Margaret “Peggy” Edna Schwerdtfeger Thompson, 94, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015, at Capron United Methodist Church, with Pastor Clark Struebling officiating. Burial will follow at Capron Cemetery, with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Kiowa, Kan. Viewing is 3-5 p.m. Sunday, March 8, with the family present at the funeral home in Kiowa.
