Funeral services for William Wunschel will be Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Alva Wesleyan Church with Reverend John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Wharton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

William Edward son of Jennie Vera (Green) and Harry John Wunschel, was born May 4, 1931 in Cherokee, Iowa. He passed away at the Enid Integris Bass Baptist Medical Center on the 11th of April at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 7 days.

He attended school in Iowa. On August 12, 1950 he joined the United States Navy and served in Korea. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal (7 stars), China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. Bill was honorably discharged on June 11, 1954.

On October 20, 1956 in Alva, Oklahoma he married Jean Howell at the Wesleyan Church. To their marriage two children, Melody and Jill, were born.

Following their marriage they made their home in Alva and he worked for the Farmers Co-op for 41 years in the elevator and the feed store.

Bill was a member of the Alva Wesleyan Church. He led singing and taught Sunday School including last Sunday.

He was Alva Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year November 12, 2002. He walked and rode his bike for miles and was called the Alva Ambassador. He attended all of his grandchildren?s sporting events.

Mr. Wunschel was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Maxine; and two brothers, Herbert and Richard.

Bill is survived by his wife Jean, two daughters and their husbands, Melody and William Theademan, of Alva and Jill and Doug Boyd, of Canadian, Texas; five grandchildren, Zach and Cari Ann Theademan, Mattie, Jazzie and Sadie Boyd; a sister Shirley Nierstheimer, of Wheatland, Wyoming; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Alva Wesleyan Church.

March 12, 1936 - July 28, 2021

Funeral services for Jean Wunschel will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2021, at the Alva Wesleyan Church with pastor Paul Kirk officiating. Interment will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. There will be a visitation with the family at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.

Rosetta "Jean" Wunschel, daughter of the late Walter Thomas and Celesta (Burnidge) Howell, was born March 12, 1936, on the family farm in Woods County, Oklahoma, and passed away July 28, 2021, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 16 days.

Jean attended Riverview School, graduated from Northwestern Normal School, then attended Northwestern State College. On October 20, 1956, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Edward Wunschel in Alva. She worked as a secretary for a local Old Surety Insurance Agency, then worked at the Woods County Clerk's office until her retirement.

She was a member of the Alva Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed having breakfast and celebrating birthdays with her "Spunky Girls."

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; one sister, Joan Nelson; and one niece, Connie Rutherford.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Melody Theademan and husband, William, of Alva, and Jill Boyd and husband, Doug, of Canadian, Texas; two brothers, Marion Howell and wife, Lyndell, of Alva, and Tom Howell of Alva; one sister, Erlene and husband, Dr. Dennis Morehart, of Enid; five grandchildren, Zach Theademan and wife, Lynnsey, of Wichita, Kansas; Cari Martin and husband, Connor, of Alva, and Mattie, Jazzie, and Sadie Boyd, all of Canadian, Texas; two great grandchildren, Griffin and Hudson Theademan, both of Wichita, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Freedom Gates Boys Ranch.
