Alva Cemetery


The funeral for Opal Elizabeth Wing, 85, of Alva, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. The Rev. Mark McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Enid, to Lillie Mae Rhodes and William Kroft and died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at Alva Share Medical Center.

She attended River View Grade School north of Alva and completed the seventh grade.

She married Harlie Ted Lowry June 20, 1940, in Enid. She worked at the Swift Packing Plant and Camp Gruber Prison in Muskogee. He died July 28, 1982.

She married Albert Wing Sept. 29, 1958, in Cherokee. She worked for Dr. Young’s Hospital, Bert Reed’s Hatchery, Joe Denner’s Bakery, several cafes, and cleaned houses and motels. He died May 4, 1983.

She was a member of Enid Christian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Winona Mae McGuire and Cindy Marie Shafer, both of Alva; one son, Ted Otis Lowry of Amarillo, Texas; two half-sisters, Bonnie Bradford of Cherokee and Mattie Sue Morgan of Las Vegas; four half-brothers, Marvin Shipley of Alva, Frank Shipley of Kiowa, Kan., and Price Shipley and Jimmy Shipley, both of Laken, Kan.; and one grandson.

In addition to both husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters, two half-brothers and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
