Alva Cemetery


FEbruary 15, 1912 - March 25, 1910

ALVA - The funeral for Velma Irene Whittet, 98, of Alva, will be 2 p.m. today, March 27, 2010, at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. The Rev. John Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 15, 1912, south of Dacoma to Arthur Henry Paris and Mary Katherine Murrow and died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Share Convalescent Home, Alva.

She attended Red Bird rural grade school. She worked on the farm. In 1943 she worked at the college cafeteria. In 1953, she went to work at Alva General Hospital as a nurse aide.

She married Charles Lewis “Bud” Whittet April 1, 1956. They lived in Dacoma for a year before moving to Alva in 1957. He died Aug. 10, 1984. She began work for Dr. John Simon in 1972, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Alva Wesleyan Church and the Missionary Society.

Surviving are one sister, Bertha Garberich, and one brother, DeVerl, all of Enid.

In addition to her husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Memorials may be made to Alva Wesleyan Church.
