Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Alva Municipal Cemetery. Wharton Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.whartonfuneralchapel.com.

Lulu Belle daughter of Nettie Olive (Rhodes) and Jessie Howard, was born May 8, 1921, in Elkhart, Kan. She passed away at Greenbrier Village in Enid, on the seventh day of June, 2014, at the age of 93 years and 30 days.

At six months of age Lulu’s mother passed away and she went to live with her Grandma Buck; following her death Lulu came to Alva to live with Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes.

She attended school in Lake City, Kan., and graduated with the class of 1939.

Miss Howard was married to John Rhodes on Nov. 9, 1941. To their marriage four children, Linda, Jonnie, Warren and Karibeth, were born.

On May 27, 1967, she was married to Wilford (Curly) Wadkins. Curly passed away July 7, 1988.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Linda; two grandsons; her parents; a brother and a sister.

Lulu is survived by her children and their spouses, Jonnie and Frank Henke, Karibeth and Jay Don Hofen, and Warren and Brenda Rhodes; seven grandchildren, Kristen Barnett, Lori Bonnewell and her husband Tim, Peggy Rose and her husband Tom, Branden Rhodes and his wife Tracie, Wesley Rhodes, Jason Hofen, Sarah-Chapman and her husband Mikel; 12 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister Jean Rock.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Ross Hospice.
