Funeral services for Harry Venosdel Sr. will be Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Chapel with Chuck Lightfoot officiating. Burial will follow in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Wharton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.whartonfuneralchapel.com.

Harry Lee, son of Alice Irene (Anderson) and Issac Edward Venosdel, was born on June 30, 1932, at the old Alva Hospital. He passed away at the Enid St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center on the 28th of September at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 28 days.

He attended Liberty Bell Rural Grade School and graduated from Alva High School with the class of 1950. On April 21, 1953, he joined the U.S. Army at Oklahoma City and was discharged on April 20, 1955, at the Presidio of Monterey, Calif.

While in the service in California Harry met Maurice Winifred Ready. They were married Jan. 9, 1955, in Vallejo Calif. To their marriage a son, Michael Lee, was born. She died in an auto accident near the family farm on May 8, 1956.

On June 1, 1957, he married Glenda Ann Parker in Alva. To this union five children were born, Harry Lee Jr.; Julia Ann, born on June 14, 1960, and died on June 18, 1960; Brian Kent; Angela Kay; and Glen Edward, born and died June 2, 1969.

Harry farmed and ranched and was a custom harvester and carpenter, raising cattle, wheat, chickens and gardening. He enjoyed bowling and was an active member of the Moose Lodge.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Beulah Paris, Wilma Venosdel, Virginia Venosdel and Betty Lou Kitchen; and two brothers, Dan and Edward.

Harry is survived by a special friend, Loretta Bails; three sons, Michael Lee and his wife LeaAnn, Harry Lee Jr, Brian Kent and his wife Janet; daughter Angela Kay and husband Timothy Nelson; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Helen Venosdel; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives; and friends.

Contributions in his name may be made to Alva Moose Lodge #2100 Endowment Fund.
