Wichita, Kansas – The funeral for Harvey E. Veley, 81, will be at 10 AM Friday at the Hillside Funeral Home in Wichita, Kansas. Lee Drennan, pastor of First Bible Baptist Church, will officiate.

Graveside service will be held at 3 PM Friday in the Alva Municipal Cemetery at Alva.

The casket will be open until noon Thursday at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva, then at Hillside Funeral Home until service time Friday and at the cemetery before burial.

He was born January 14, 1912, 10 miles west of Aline to Ernest K. And Edna O. Walker Veley and died suddenly Monday, September 13, 1993, at his home in Wichita, Kansas. He attended the Loan Star Rural Grade School and helped his parents on the farm.

On March 28, 1934, he married Lillie Icylone Dupus at Alva. The family lived near Alva where he drove the Mistletoe Express. In 1946 he began work in construction as a carpenter in Alva. He went to Wichita in 1952 and continued to work as a carpenter, retiring in November 1981.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Vera A. Turner of Commerce City, Colorado, Opal Higgins of Springfield, Missouri, and Donna Darr of Kirksville, Missouri; one son, Vernon of Wichita; three sisters,Vola Nicholson of Alva, Florence Dupus and Bessie Smith, both of Enid; two brothers, Fred of Lawton and Richard of Okeene; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Heart Fund.

Alva – The funeral for Lillie Icylone "Icy" Veley, 87, will be 10 AM Tuesday in First Bible Baptist Church of Wichita, Kansas. Lee Drennan will officiate. Burial will be 3 PM Tuesday in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel.

She was born June 14, 1913, East of Aline to Maude Thomas and John Dupus and died Saturday, December 15, 2001, at her home in Wichita.

She attended Round Grove rural grade school and Aline High School. In the 1930s, the family moved to a farm West of Aline. She married Harvey E. Veley on March 28, 1934, in Alva. They lived in Alva until 1954 when they moved to Wichita. She was a member of First Bible Baptist Church of Wichita.

Surviving are three daughters, Vera A. Turner of Divide, Colorado, Opal Higgins of Springfield, Missouri, Donna Darr of Kirkville, Missouri; one son, Vernon of Wichita; one sister, Marchella McLemore of San Diego; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on September 13, 1993, one sister and one brother.

Memorials may be made to the church.
