Alva Cemetery


The funeral for Helen Maxine Veley, 91, of Alva, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alva Wesleyan Church. The Rev. John Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrange-ments are by Whar-ton Funeral Chapel, Alva.

She was born July 1, 1916, on a farm south of Dacoma to Mary Katherine Murrow and Arthur Henry Paris and died Monday, July 23, 2007, at Alva Share Medical Center.

She attended Red Bird rural grade school and Dacoma High School.

She married Russell Dean Veley June 12, 1937, at the parsonage of Pleasant View Church. They lived and farmed in the Green Valley area until 1943 when they moved to Enid. They later lived in Alva where she was a pastry cook at Northwestern Oklahoma State University until she retired. He died May 16, 1983. She was a member of Alva Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Carroll Richardson of Oklahoma City and Myrna Millege of Alva; one son, Larry of Chickasha; two sisters, Velma Whittet of Alva, and Bertha Garberich of Enid; one brother, DeVerl Paris of Enid; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, four brothers and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Alva Wesleyan Church or American Heart Association.
