William (Bill) Starner was born September 20, 1948, to Wanda Ailles and William Starner. He died October 20, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bill grew up in Alva, graduating from Alva High in 1967. He joined the Marines and served in Vietnam from September 1969 until November 1970. After he left the Marines, he enlisted in the Air Force and served for 19 ½ years, retiring in 1991. He liked the job that he had been doing in the Air Force so well that he continued doing the same thing, finally retiring from “secret stuff” in 2010.

In 1973, he married Cynda Mercer. They had two children, David and Teresa, who were the joy of his life. He was a wonderful father and he helped them become wonderful people.

Bill served as a member of College Park Baptist in Las Vegas, Nevada, for over 30 years. He was a Christian who was truly led by his love of God.

Bill was predeceased by his grandmother, Ann Moore; mother; father; brothers, Wayne and Warren; and his nephew, Christopher Stockdale.

He leaves David, Teresa and Brent Bain; Noelle, Anthony, Robert and Daniel Gomez; Wilma Stockdale; Elizabeth Vaughn and Roxyanne Moore; and nieces, nephews and friends to cherish his memory.

Graveside services will be Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Alva Municipal Cemetery. Wharton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
