The funeral service for Jeanette "Jean" Wade Sams, 84, of Amarillo, Texas, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at the Creede Baptist Church, 600 La Garita, Creede, CO, 81130. Arrangements by Horizon Funeral Home Inc., Dalhart, TX. Another service was held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Amos Family Chapel, Shawnee, KS. Burial was 2 p.m. Friday in Alva Municipal Cemetery, Alva.

Jeanette Wade was born June 6, 1924, in Enid to Clyde and Carrie Dixon Wade and died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, in Amarillo.

On Thursday, Dec. 31, 1942, she married Robert L. Sams in Alva. She earned her private pilot's license in 1961 and loved flying her Cessna 170. As a young woman she was a member of the Motor Maids and had her own motorcycle that she rode regularly. Jean loved to crochet afghans for everyone and her knitted dishcloths were favorite gifts to family and friends. Fishing with Bob was one of her favorite pastimes.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of almost 66 years, Robert Sams of Amarillo, TX; four daughters, Kandy Meehan-Gibson and her husband Tom of Leawood, KS, Wanda Grindstaff and husband Steve of Overland Park, KS, Judy Huckabee and her husband Jim of Amarillo, TX, and Patti Moran and her husband Patrick of Lee's Summit, MO; one son, Randy Sams and his wife, Sherri of Prairie Village, KS; one sister, Gwen Swartz and her husband, Pat of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Richard Wade of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren, David Milliren and wife Angie, Kenna Sluder and husband Josh, Tom Burns, Ryan Burns, Allison Legnon and husband Darron, Caitlin Meehan, Justin Sams, Carrie Meehan, Amanda Sams; two great-grandchildren, Davis and Austin Sluder.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Faith Mary.

The family requests memorials to Creede Baptist Church, 600 La Garita, Creede, CO 81130, American Cancer Society, 3915 Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109.
