Cleo May (Haney) SCRIBNER

Alva Cemetery

Funeral services for Cleo May Haney Scribner will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Bible Baptist Church with Pastor John Clapp officiating. Interment will follow in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Cleo May Haney Scribner was born November 9 1950, at Watonga, Oklahoma, the eldest child of Ivan and Shirley (Eaton) Haney. She passed away at Share Medical Center, Alva, Oklahoma, August 20, 2023, at the age of 72 years.

She was married to Jim Scribner on July 17, 1967, in Fairview, Oklahoma. She had two sons, Jerry Lee Scribner and Justin Dewane Scribner. Cleo worked at Wal Mart for over 20 years, starting at the old store south of town. She was in groceries for many years, and her customers didn't have to bother looking for stuff, they just hunted Cleo up because they knew they would get a smile and the location of their food every time.

She and Jim did swap meets and flea markets for years, and made many friends along the way. When friends showed up at the booth, the first thing everyone said was not "Hi, Jim", but "Where is Cleo," if she wasn't in the booth. Her talent at knowing what things were worth amazed all.

Cleo loved making quilts, doing counted crossstich, and embroidery work as evidenced by the many quilts she has left for her family. She went on several Quilt Hops over the years. For several years a group of ladies would meet on Thursday to sew, laugh, and enjoy the fellowship. Cleo's house was the usual meeting place, because she loved her home and having friends to share it with. Her parties were legend. From three Christmas parties to Fourth of July with the family, surprise birthday parties, and Easter egg hunts in her yard with a thousand eggs, Cleo made it happen because she loved all her family and friends and was always ready to meet new ones.

Before life got so busy, she had to make choices on how to slow down, she was a member of the Merry Maidens and Grow and Share Home Extension clubs, was an avid gardener, and flower grower. She loved to travel and had a knack of finding the most obscure quilt shops while passing through towns. Even on the once a year stops, everyone remembered the smiling quilter. Cleo the grey-haired girl had her hair-colored purple and loved to show it off. She enjoyed pedicures and getting shiny nails, and she usually found one of her family to con into going with her.

Cleo had a "brag board" beside her chair with pictures of all the grandkids she was so proud of. Anytime a family member, especially grandkids, would call or come by Cleo would light up, and problems were forgotten for a while. Her family was her great love, and even in her last days she was worried about her family, leaving instructions how to make their worlds better.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Ivan and Shirley Haney, mother-in-law, Hulda Scribner, and great grandson, Drake Chaffin.

Cleo is survived by her husband, Jim, sons, Jerry (Grace), and Justin (Michelle), all of Alva; grandsons, David and James Scribner, Garber, JoJo and Logan, Alva; granddaughters, Jennifer Mackey, Alva, Jaylyn Scribner, Stillwater, Lacy Jobin (Michael), Palamtree, Oregon; two great grandsons in Oregon, sister, Iva Jean (Gary) McCulloch, Braman, brother, Earnest (Wanda) Haney, Alva, father-in-law, James Scribner, Alva; brother-in-laws, Jack (Sandy) Scribner, Waukomis, and Jeff Scribner, Alva; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Rest in peace dear heart.
