Graveside services for Larry Joe Richey will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2020, at the Alva Municipal Cemetery with Rev. Steve Graham and Rev. Chris Ruwaldt officiating. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Alva First Baptist Church under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Larry Joe Richey, son of the late Billy Lee and Florine Rosella (Bourne) Richey, was born March 2, 1947, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away June 14, 2020, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 12 days.

Larry grew up in Alva and graduated Alva High School with the Class of 1965. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1966 through 1970. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Chanute AFB, Illionois; Clinton Sherman AFB, Oklahoma, (Oklahoma 70th Bombardment Wing SAC – B52 bombers, KC135 tankers); Kadena AFB, Okinawa (temporary assignment); Ching Chuan Kang (CCK) AFB, Taiwan (314th Tactical Airlift Wing – C130 aircraft); Naha AFB, Okinawa; Bangkok, Thailand; Clark AFB, Philippines; and Cam Rahn Bay, Viet Nam. During time in Asia, Richey had a secret security clearance.

After his discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Alva and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University where he played football. On December 31, 1970, he was united in marriage to Theresa Sample in Alva. He graduated NWOSU with the Class of 1973. On April 8, 1990, he was united in marriage to Lizabeth Renee Barham in Oklahoma City.

Larry was a founding member of the Rowdy Rangers. His working career spanned positions with Northwest Translator TV, Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Hobbies included fishing, fixing, stock car racing, friends and family. Today, the area fish are a little safer and Heaven is a little livelier.

Larry is survived by his wife, Lizabeth, of the home; one son, Chad Alan Richey, of Watauga, Texas; two daughters, Michelle Dawn (Richey) Newton and husband, Timothy, of Alva, and Andrea Paige (Hagerman) Crawford and husband, Corey, of Alva; one brother, Jim Richey and wife, Melba, of Alva; one sister, Sue Rauh and husband, Mike, of Edmond; his parents-in-law, Clinton and Colene Barham of Alva; and his brother-in-law, Cullen Barham.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Elijah Ellsworth Newton, Samuel Bishop Newton, Thomas Bourne Newton, Isabella Corinne Newton, Ezekiel Joseph Newton, Caitlyn Rachelle Crawford, Chloe Vonne Lehr, Kennedy Olivia Crawford, Cason Lee Crawford, and Charlee Rae Crawford; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alva Goldbug Education Foundation (make checks to CFO for AGEF) or the NWOSU Foundation.
