Funeral services for Melvina Fern Roberts will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nathan Hosier officiating. Interment will follow at Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Marshall Funeral Home.

Melvina Fern Roberts was born to the late Erta J. Gum and Edith (Knight) Gum on October 3, 1935 in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away December 23, 2022, in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years, 2 months, 20 days.

She attended Alva High School. She married Howard Orlando Roberts on December 24, 1952, in Alva, Oklahoma. Together with her husband, Howard, Fern farmed and raised her family near Yates Center, Kansas. Later in life she was a nurses aide and worked her way to being the activity director at Chapman's Nursing Home in Yates Center.

She enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, painting and quilting. She and her husband also restored homes and loved making them new. Fern was the choir director for several years at Yates Center Methodist Church. Music and singing were a big part of her life.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; son, Jay Mitchell Roberts; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Roberts.

She is survived by her sons, Stephen Howard Roberts of Lawrence, Kansas, and Jeffery Mark Roberts and his partner Frances Lynch of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Michael Jeffery Roberts and his wife Audrey Roberts of Boise, Idaho; Nicole Michelle Stivers and her husband David Stivers of Hutchinson, Kansas; Jonathan Michael Roberts and his partner Trisha Delano of Lebonon, Oregon; great-grandchildren Jude Alexander Roberts, Nicholas Michael Roberts, Corbin Riley Roberts; daughter-in-law Susan Roberts; and many other family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be through the funeral home to the charity of your choice in Fern's memory.
