Alva Cemetery

A graveside service for Oscar Lee Noblitt Jr., 81, of Alva, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Bob Brown will officiate. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.

He was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Alva to Purney Roch and Oscar Lee Noblitt Sr. and died Monday June 20, 2005, at Woodward Hospital and Health Center.

He attended school in Marcia, N.M. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico. He worked for ranchers in Freedom. He enlisted in the Army in 1943, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his discharge he moved to a farm northeast of Freedom, later moving to Arizona in 1949. He worked for Southwest Lumber Co. in New Mexico and Colorado.

In February 1951, he re-enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korean War. He later worked in construction in Nebraska. He worked for Halliburton in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Saudi Arabia and Argentina. He returned to Freedom, working as a mechanic for Woodward County District Highway Department. He attended Church of Christ and was a member of Hatch-Vincent American Legion Post and Woodward Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are two sisters, Twilla Potter of Seattle and Elsie Joy Williams of Kaw City and two brothers, Elzie of Woodward and Don of Freedom.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.
