Shelley L. Hintergardt Martin, daughter of Etta Margaret (O'Connell) and Edgar Lee Hintergardt, was born January 21, 1930, at Elkhart, Kansas. She passed away at Beadles Nursing Home in Alva, Oklahoma on July 7, 2023, at the age of 93 years old.

Shelley was the second child of nine children. They lived in Elkhart, Kansas; Cleo Springs, Oklahoma; Cortez, Colorado; returning to Alva. Shelley attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Alva High School in 1947. She graduated from NWOSU with a BA degree in 1970. After raising her children she continued her education, graduating from NWOSU with a Masters of Education in 1976.

On January 21, 1949, she married Harry V. Martin at Enid, Oklahoma. They were blessed with three children, Susan Kay, David V. and Michael Lee. They lived for many years on the farm northwest of Alva.

Shelley was the creator of the Chocolate Fantasy, a fun fundraiser for the Alva Public Library that continues today. She was a librarian at the City Library for three years before moving to Northwestern Oklahoma State University Library, where she worked for ten years. After graduating from NWOSU she worked at Alva High School Library for 14 years.

Shelley loved to go to Holder's and drink coffee and have lunch with the 747 crew. She was a member of Chapter C, PEO, Wheatland Republican Women, Friends of the Library, UMW, and Research Club.

Shelley was preceded in death by her husband, Harry V., 2007, her parents, brothers, Harland and Harold Hintergardt, Rita Hintergardt Hardin, and Esther Hintergardt Potter and son-in-law, Mike Crawford.

She is survived by her children, Susan Kay Wetzel and husband Dan, David V. Martin and wife Nancy, and Michael Lee Martin and wife Tena, grandchildren and their spouses, Jana Kay DeMarco, Brooke (Martin) and Gene Albright, Sarah (Martin) Ward, Jeffery Crawford and Chasity, Caleb Martin and Shannon, Christopher Martin and Summer and Joseph Martin and Kelsey, Jason and Lisa Wetzel, Eric and Elizabeth Wetzel, Jason and Melanie Gaisford, Jim Lancaster, Jared and Katee Smith, great grandchildren, Zachary Holt, Heath DeMarco, Grace, Nathan, Spencer Albright, Annalisa and Ben Ward, Issac, Sam, Blake and Tucker, Karena, Cade, Kyle and Camree Crawford, Ella and Luke Martin, Hailee, Isaac, Cody Wetzel, Emma and Everlee Wetzel, Cameron, Carson, Cambell, Coleman Gaisford, Macy Lancaster, Asher and Graee Smith. Brothers and spouses Harvey, Harley and Brenda and Hadley and Mary Hintergardt and Emma Joy Sharp, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
